Education faces the challenge to keep up with social and technological change in terms of professional learning content, and educational/pedagogical development.

Changes in education are not new, but the pace at which they are taking place now and the acceleration that can be expected in the near future require vision and policy to properly prepare teachers for the changes in their profession.

STRAX challenge is to find out how to support professionals in education to be prepare for the challenges their facing right now. It’s not about educational innovation by expanding the didactic possibilities that fits new demand of students, society, and technology.

We believe that the use of a Learning Lab is a good way to support, entice and challenge teachers and other education professionals to use new technologies to further improve education.

Technology can’t do it completely, but equally, teachers can’t do it alone.

Learning scenarios

Learning scenario 1 - IOT and 3D printing

In this learning scenario apprentices want to improve non-disruptive recordings by 4 wireless cameras in the "Details" concept store of the Graafschap college. The technical solution includes IoT and 3D printing to connect the cameras to a Raspberry Pi. The solution must be functional and visually appealing to match the store's futuristic style.

The evaluation feedback received from both trainers and apprentices indicates that the creation of the case by 3D printing was easy, motivating, and effective.

Learning scenario 2 - Using VR to experience a Learning factory

In this learning scenario apprentices will learn with virtual reality (VR) and digital twinning by using a Fischertechnik-based warehouse prototype to enhance visualization, collaboration, and real-time feedback, while reducing costs and risks.

The evaluation feedback received from both trainers and apprentices indicates that the use of VR and digital twin is engaging and effective. It can be therefore assumed, that a better knowledge transfer, improved understanding of automation concepts, and increased confidence in applying learnings to real-world situations, results in a more effective and engaging learning experience for students.
